Chris Carr
2004, Competition
Pappy Hoel once said, "Chris is young, but he'll come around
someday." Earlier this year, Chris admitted that he had once been a
cocky kid, but had matured a lot over the years.
A dirt track novice in 1983, Chris turned pro in 1985, earned rookie
of the year honors, and ran the Grand National Series full-time until
1995. He knew had arrived in pro racing with his first Grand National
victory at the age of 19.
Chris won his 4th AMA Grand National Championship in 2002, becoming
only the 3rd man in history to win four or more titles!
Three more wins that year brought Chris' career victory total to
57. Two of those ins came at the famed Springfiel Mile, extending
his streak to an amazing five in a row at that track.
Chris, who already holds the TT win record with fifteen, took over the
all-time short track win title in 2003 with six victories in that
category. With a total of 63 lifetime wins, he is second only to
Scott Parker in that record book statistic. Chris is well ahead of
Jay Springsteen, who has won 42 titles at the Springfield Mile.
Other significant milestones for Chris were his nomination for AMA
Athlete of the Year, Cycle News Rider of the Year in 2002, and his
successful partnership with Ford Motor Company.
Chris, his wife Pam, and their two sons, Cale and Cameron, currently
live in Pennsylvania. Chris joins his road racing hero, Kenny Roberts,
in the National Motorcycle Museum's Hall of Fame.
